Budget and Spending

As a fiscal conservative, I am deeply troubled by our nation’s ever growing debt burden. Washington should respect hardworking taxpayers and balance its budget just like the State of Oklahoma does. We must remember that debt today becomes tomorrow’s taxes. For the sake of our children and grandchildren we urgently need to bring fiscal restraint back to Washington. During my time in Congress, I will support efforts to bring greater transparency to federal spending and to root out waste, fraud, and abuse.

The foundation of the United States economy rests firmly on the shoulders of our small businesses. From local, family-owned, mom-and-pop shops to hardworking farmers and ranchers, their tireless efforts fuel our economic engine. The federal government should allow these businesses to thrive, rather than burdening them with extensive taxes.
WASHINGTON, D.C - Today, Representatives Stephanie Bice (OK-5) and Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38) unveiled groundbreaking legislation to tackle the pressing issue of childcare affordability faced by families across the nation.
As we enter 2024, many of us throughout Oklahoma are setting goals for the New Year. This is a time to focus on what we would like to accomplish and things we would like to achieve. For the remainder of this Congress, I will be working to deliver results and increase quality of life for Oklahomans throughout the Fifth Congressional District. These efforts will focus on two major initiatives: safeguarding our nation and revitalizing our economy.
Over the course of the last few years, prices have risen across the board. This is especially noticeable during the Holiday season, which is set to be one of the most expensive on record. Just last week, we came together to celebrate Thanksgiving. The price of many Thanksgiving staples rose exponentially. Canned cranberries are up 60%, frozen vegetables are up 10.7%, sauces and gravies are up 7.5%, uncooked turkey was up 7.2%, rolls were up 5.7%, frozen pies were up 2.7%. |
Washington, D.C.- Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a two-step stopgap funding bill which seeks to avert a government shutdown. In step one, four appropriations bills: Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, Transportation-Housing-Urban Development, Agriculture, and Energy and Water are extended until January 19th. In step two, the remaining eight appropriations bills are extended until February 2nd.
Last week, President Biden announced that he would cancel $10,000 in federal student loans and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. This will apply to borrowers making less than $125,000 per year for individuals and less than $250,000 for households. As a result, American taxpayers will bear the brunt of others’ debts, fuel will be added to already raging inflation, and our nation will further fall into crushing debt.
Americans shouldn’t have to choose between driving to work and putting food on the table. In a Democrat-controlled nation, sadly this is the reality. Inflation has increased nearly 550% since President Biden took office, which is a direct consequence of his reckless spending. Additionally, this Administration halted domestic energy production, which has had negative impacts on nearly every aspect of our economy, including sky-high costs, supply chain shortages, and small businesses.
President Biden submitted his budget proposal for the Fiscal Year 2023 to Congress last week, which serves as a wish list of his funding priorities. Although presidential budgets are only requests, his legislative ideas, with a price tag of $5.8 trillion, are simply out-of-touch with the real needs of the American people.
Under Democratic control of the White House and Congress, our nation has broken records -- for the worse. Most recently, through irresponsible and unsustainable government spending, the U.S. national debt exceeded $30 trillion for the first time. Unfortunately, Democrats are kicking the can down the road and not addressing the biggest contributors to this crisis. Instead of reining in spending, they are continuing to rack up our nation’s debt that Americans will pay off for generations to come.
