Energy and Environment

Domestic energy production is vital to our country’s economy and is truly a matter of national security. As a member of the House Energy Action Team (HEAT), I believe that Congress should enact a national strategy that ensures abundant, affordable energy for consumers, and creates more American jobs, all while reducing emissions. America has made significant progress in improving air and water quality and should continue to lead the world in environmental innovation. Oklahoma is home to an array of beautiful landscapes, including wide open plains, rushing rivers, and rolling hills, and I am committed to preserving these treasures for generations to come.

Washington, D.C.- After voting to support H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill, Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement:
Since taking office, President Biden has used the power of the pen to add new, burdensome regulations across all sectors of the economy. The scope of government overreach has reached a point that is untenable. While this trend did not begin with the sitting President, it has grown exponentially under his administration.
Washington, D.C. - Today, the House of Representatives passed numerous pieces of legislation that Congresswoman Bice co-leads.
Since President Biden took office, America’s energy independence has been at stake, with countless industries facing a full-on regulatory assault. The United States has long strived to reduce reliance on foreign energy sources, yet recent actions have once again shifted the balance dangerously. President Biden's decisions have not only cost thousands of American jobs but have significantly increased our dependency on foreign energy sources.
Washington, D.C. - Today, the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee marked up H.R. 6093, the Weather Act Reauthorization, legislation that Congresswoman Bice cosponsors.
President Biden has been desperately searching for ways to lower record-high gas prices, yet instead of addressing the root causes, he continues to slap a bandage on this self-inflicted crisis by tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). This is the third time Biden has tapped into this emergency reserve since coming into office. In November, he chose to release 50 million barrels of oil and in early March he released 30 million more.
Before President Biden took office, our country was energy independent. In 2019, we became a net total energy exporter for the first time since 1952. The United States was not reliant on foreign adversaries for our energy needs. Instead, we were producing clean, affordable, and secure energy to fuel our nation. We were a stronger America.
If you drove across our state of Oklahoma, you would see nearly half a million wells that have been drilled into open fields. While they support hundreds of thousands of jobs and contribute to producing clean American energy when active, abandoned wells and legacy sites have become a major problem for landowners. These sites cause environmental hazards and are extremely costly, which is why my colleague Representative Conor Lamb (PA-17) and I crafted H.R. 4270, the Abandoned Well Remediation Research and Development Act.
