The Reality of a Democrat-controlled Economy

Americans shouldn’t have to choose between driving to work and putting food on the table. In a Democrat-controlled nation, sadly this is the reality. Inflation has increased nearly 550% since President Biden took office, which is a direct consequence of his reckless spending. Additionally, this Administration halted domestic energy production, which has had negative impacts on nearly every aspect of our economy, including sky-high costs, supply chain shortages, and small businesses. The American people simply can’t afford the Democrats’ self-inflicted economic crisis.

Just a few years ago America was energy independent, producing clean, reliable, and affordable energy for its citizens. On day one, Biden began his presidency with a total assault on American energy production. He halted new energy projects, shut down pipeline construction, and took every step to discourage American oil and gas production. Not only have these decisions led to record-breaking gas prices, but the negative effects have trickled down to many other parts of our economy. His actions have even made us reliant on foreign adversaries. We currently are experiencing a supply chain crisis, which has led to infant formula shortages, and large increases in fertilizer costs which have limited our ability to produce domestic agriculture. This in turn has led to the crushing, 40-year record high prices of daily necessities, with businesses struggling to keep products on shelves.

Instead of addressing these issues, Democrats are looking to double-down on their failed policies. This week, the House will vote on the misleading, so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” which barely passed out of the Senate in a party-line vote on Sunday. This legislation will do anything but reduce inflation. Instead, it will hit lower- and middle-class Americans the hardest.

According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, the plan will hike taxes by $16.7 billion for those earning less than $200,000, and by $14.1 billion for taxpayers earning between $200,000 to $500,000. On top of this, their bill will provide $80 billion to the IRS to fund 87,000 new agents for heavy-handed enforcement and audits targeting everyday taxpayers. This out-of-touch bill dedicates millions to environmental justice while ignoring domestic energy sources. The last thing the American people need is new taxes during a recession, increased manufacturing costs during a supply chain crisis, and more spending which will further record high inflation.

Luckily, Republicans have solutions to revive the American dream and support hardworking people in this great nation. We are committed to reversing the harmful policies that have resulted in a recession and severe economic downturn. First and foremost, we will unleash American energy independence, promote pro-growth tax policies, and eliminate barriers to strengthen our supply chain and end our dependence on adversaries like China. We have real solutions to the real problems the American people are facing and are determined to successfully revive our economy.
