After 43 days of a Democrat-driven shutdown, the government finally reopened last week. This legislation was identical to a package that Republican leadership offered in the Senate weeks ago, showing that this entire situation was political and avoidable. This legislation responsibly reopened the government and fully funded three appropriations bills: Agriculture, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. This means that SNAP, WIC, and the VA will be operating and fully funded through the end of the Fiscal Year in September of 2026.

Washington, D.C.- Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on legislation which put an end to the government shutdown. This package includes a clean continuing resolution which funds the government through January 30, 2026, as well as three appropriations bills which provide full fiscal year funding for Agriculture, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. These bills will ensure SNAP, WIC, and the VA are operating at full capacity through the end of the Fiscal Year.

Much debate has occurred in Congress and in state governments over the years as to whether or not we should bother changing our clocks. The pros and cons are complicated and interestingly regional preferences come into play.

On September 19, 2025, the United States House of Representatives passed H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026, a temporary continuing resolution which would fund the government until November 21, 2025. Nearly every House Democrat and the overwhelming majority of Senate Democrats have voted to oppose this measure.

Washington, D.C. – On September 30th, Congresswoman Bice submitted a letter requesting that her pay be withheld during the government shutdown. During the course of the government shutdown, federal employees are either furloughed or forced to work without pay.

October 1, 2025

Washington, D.C.- At 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, October 1st, the United States government has officially shut down. Two weeks ago, House Republicans passed a clean short-term continuing resolution to keep the government open and allow the House and Senate to finish the appropriations process. The House Appropriations Committee has passed all twelve appropriations bills out of committee.

In the last year, we have seen two attempts on the life of President Trump, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and the targeted attack resulting in the death of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband and the injury of another MN lawmaker and his wife.
