Statement on the Fall of Afghanistan

August 16, 2021

Oklahoma City – Congresswoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in response to the fall of the Afghan government to the Taliban.

“I am deeply disappointed in the lack of leadership demonstrated by President Biden to the events unfolding in Afghanistan. Yesterday, rather than addressing the world to provide direction or reassurance, Biden remained silent.

The President has once again jeopardized the security of our nation, just as is occurring with the crisis at our southern border. I fear that President Biden’s miscalculation in Afghanistan will lead to the region once again becoming a safe haven for terrorists fixated on attacking our homeland and our way of life. The actions of this administration demonstrate a lack of foresight on the situation in Afghanistan.

“Make no mistake, ending U.S. involvement in Afghanistan in this way and allowing the Taliban to claim it as their own will have long-term impacts on the security of our nation, and has caused irreparable damage to the United States as a world leader.”
