On Saturday, July 13th, 2024, the nation was shocked to its core. It was on this day that President Trump almost had his life taken away in Pennsylvania. This assassination attempt left others injured and tragically resulted in the passing of Corey Comperatore. In the immediate aftermath, it was clear that the Secret Service director had failed to protect the candidate for President of the United States for the Republican Party. The Secret Service had a no-fail mission, and unfortunately, they failed.

As August approaches, I’m looking forward to being at home in Oklahoma and taking advantage of the opportunity to meet and engage with constituents across the Fifth Congressional District. Since Congress’s early years, August has traditionally been a district work period, and this time away from the Capitol is dedicated for Members of Congress to return to their home districts and states, engage directly with their constituents, and immerse themselves in the local issues that matter most to their communities.

Since taking office, President Biden has used the power of the pen to add new, burdensome regulations across all sectors of the economy. The scope of government overreach has reached a point that is untenable. While this trend did not begin with the sitting President, it has grown exponentially under his administration.   

Oklahoma has some of the strongest protections in place to ensure a secure election system. Other states cannot say the same. It is the American people’s right to choose their elected officials, but over the years our foreign adversaries have found ways to interfere in our democratic systems. House Republicans are working to ensure that our elections are secure nationwide through thoughtful, pragmatic electoral reform.
