The Reality of the State of the Union

Despite the rosy picture President Biden paints this week in his state of the union address, he cannot deflect blame and ignore the numerous concerns that are facing our nation. The reality is the state of the union is weaker and families are struggling because of Biden’s far-left policies. A recent NBC poll found that 71% of Americans believe our country is on the wrong track, clearly indicating that the leader of our nation is out of touch with the true needs of the American people.

Although the President boasts a strong economy, this isn’t felt by Oklahomans who are paying the highest prices in over 40 years to put food on the table for their families. The skyrocketing prices of goods and services have cost households approximately $10,000 over the last two years. When it comes to prices at the pump and utility bills, over a third of Americans have forgone basic expenses to afford energy costs in the last twelve months. These are direct consequences of the Administration’s assault on domestic energy production and their endless spending.

When it comes to national security, our nation is less secure under Biden’s watch. With an open southern border, there have been over 4.5 million illegal crossings since Biden took office. That is more than the population size of our home state of Oklahoma. This is deeply concerning because over 100 people on the terrorist watchlist have been apprehended at the border, with an unknown amount who have evaded our overwhelmed border patrol agents. Additionally, deadly drugs like fentanyl are pouring into our nation and landing in the hands of young Americans, causing fentanyl overdoses to be the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45. The border crisis is heartbreaking and dangerous to our nation’s health and national security.

When it comes to foreign adversaries, last week, the Biden Administration allowed a Chinese spy balloon to traverse the entire continental U.S. over the course of 7 days, gathering intelligence and flying over sensitive military sites before taking action. Despite knowing of this threat, Biden allowed an invasion of U.S. airspace and a violation of our national sovereignty. This is a failure which will further embolden China, and other foreign adversaries. I am eager to investigate why he allowed this national security threat to go on for so long and what information our foreign adversaries were able to gather.

Luckily, there’s hope for the American people by ending one-party Democratic rule in Washington under a House Republican majority. In just one month, we have passed legislation that brings these and numerous other issues to the President’s attention. I am committed to ensuring the voices of my fellow Oklahomans are heard in Congress and to fighting to hold this Administration accountable.
