Israel at War
Saturday at dawn, Hamas launched a massive offensive through land, sea, and air against Israel, killing hundreds and injuring thousands. Over the last few days, we have seen this unprecedented attack escalate as terrorists have taken hostages, executed Israelis in the streets, and committed countless other atrocities. Those who live in Western Democracies do not have to live with the fear of constant attack from adversaries all around us. This is the norm in Israel, with sirens blaring, rockets falling, and the fear of constant invasion.
These attacks took place as many Jews were headed out to celebrate Shabbot and the festival of Simchat Torah, and on the 50th Anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, a conflict in which Egypt, Syria, and other Arab Nations launched a joint invasion into Israel. As of Tuesday morning, the Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired 4,500 rockets at Israel. This conflict has resulted in over 1,500 deaths, with over 2,800 Israelis injured. Hamas terrorists have even threated to execute one civilian hostage for each Israeli airstrike. So far, we have reports of over 150 hostages being taken, including those from throughout the world, potentially even Americans. As of writing this, 14 Americans have been killed in the vicious attacks.
This conflict was avoidable. Under the previous administration, and the Abraham Accords, we saw the first serious attempts at peace in the Middle East in decades. Over the past few years, we have seen an emboldened Iran, which continues to be the largest state sponsor of terror in the world. The fact is this: Americans would never accept rockets falling on our major cities. Israel has an absolute right to defend itself and the United States, Congress, and the White House must stand unwavering in our support of our greatest ally in the Middle East. They deserve the support of the free world. I am praying for the people of Israel.
