December’s Disastrous Jobs Report

December is usually a month that sees tremendous economic activity and growth during the holiday season, but this year was much different. The Democratic-controlled chambers of Congress and the White House’s wasteful spending and failed policies have contributed to record-breaking inflation, supply-chain issues, lagging wages, labor shortages, and now, the worst jobs report of Joe Biden’s presidency.

The United States economy only added 199,00 jobs in December, which falls well short of the 450,000 new jobs that economists had predicted. The number of people not in the labor force who currently want a job was barely changed and the labor force participation rates decreased for African American, Asian American, and Hispanic or Latino demographics. All of this comes at a time when inflation – a tax on the American people – is at a 40-year high and real wages have not kept pace.

According to a recent survey conducted by the New York Times, Americans are noticing the disastrous state of our economy and want solutions. Nearly 90% of adults are concerned about rising prices, with 60% saying they are very concerned. Sky-high prices are personally affecting American families, with 44% saying the increase in everyday costs is having a negative impact on their household’s financial situation and 37% saying it is having a major negative effect.

Sadly, with Democrats in control, these numbers and jobs reports could get worse. Instead of addressing our struggling economy, Biden and Democrats in the House and Senate are still forcing their far-left, out-of-touch, multi-trillion-dollar legislation that will further exacerbate our nation’s dire economic crisis. Their current Build Back Broke plan dismisses the pressing issues that our country currently faces and would instead increase taxes, inflation, government control, and kill jobs for hardworking Americans. My hope for this new Congressional session is that Democrats work with Republicans to pass common sense solutions that meet the needs of the American people and get our economy thriving again.
