$3.5 trillion Budget Spending Binge
Each year, Congress constructs a federal budget outlining spending for the next fiscal year. That budget is designed to help guide the fiscal trajectory of our nation, and provide transparency for the American people to know how Congress is spending their tax dollars.
Last week, the House passed S. Con. Res. 14 along party lines to begin the budget reconciliation process in the House. Democrats introduced a budget resolution of $3.5 trillion, which calls for the highest sustained federal spending levels in American history.
With this budget, Americans will see an additional $68 trillion in federal spending, $17 trillion in new debt, tax breaks and green subsidies for wealthy environmentalists, elimination of right to work protections, and expansion of government-controlled healthcare. Additionally, it drops military funding to the lowest levels ever, and includes a 0% increase for homeland security — as the Taliban takes control in Afghanistan and the border crisis continues to rage with more than 1.1 million migrants attempting to illegally cross the border.
The United States is already seeing the inflationary effects of out-of-control government spending, and working families are experiencing the consequences — from the gas pump to the checkout line – Americans everywhere are paying more for everything.
Rather than spend additional trillions of dollars, Congress should be getting its spending under control. This budget will raise taxes, increase inflation, and cost jobs. This is not what Oklahomans want, and this is not what our nation needs to get back on track.
Since President Biden took office, he and his Democratic colleagues have been on a tax and spend spree, with President Biden aiming to approve more than $5 trillion in spending just this year. Meanwhile, our national debt stands at $28 trillion dollars and the projected budget deficit for Fiscal Year 2021 is nearly $3 trillion.
Washington should respect hardworking taxpayers and balance its budget just like the State of Oklahoma does. For the sake of our children and grandchildren, we urgently need to bring fiscal restraint back to Washington. I voted against this dangerous budget plan, and through congressional action, I will continue to support efforts to bring greater transparency to federal spending.
