Congresswoman Bice Stands Up for Born-Alive Abortion Survivors
Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Bice proudly voted in favor of H.R. 21, a bill she cosponsors, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation ensures that infants who survive abortion attempts receive the same level of medical care as any other newborn. The bill, introduced by Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), passed the House of Representatives.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and independent organizations have documented hundreds of cases where infants survived abortion attempts. In states with minimal restrictions on abortion procedures, these children remain particularly vulnerable without federal safeguards. This legislation builds upon the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002, which affirmed that infants born alive at any stage of development are entitled to full legal and medical protections. H.R. 21 strengthens these protections by establishing clear medical responsibilities for healthcare providers and enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance.
Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement:
"It should not be controversial to provide lifesaving medical care to babies born alive after an attempted abortion. The passage of this bill reaffirms a fundamental truth: every child born in this country deserves the chance to live, regardless of the circumstances of their birth. My colleagues and I will continue to protect those who can not protect themselves."
