Bice Votes for the Strategic Production Response Act

January 27, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Representative Stephanie Bice (OK-05) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 21, the Strategic Production Response Act:

“President Biden has weakened America’s energy security in an attempt to temporarily lower gas prices leading up to the 2022 election,” Rep. Bice said. “Oklahomans deserve more than political games. H.R. 21 is a step toward allowing America to produce reliable and affordable energy to lower prices at the pump and ensure we’re prepared for true energy supply emergencies.”

The Biden Administration has released more than 250 million barrels of oil, approximately 40% of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, in less than two years. This threatens America’s economic security a national security.

H.R. 21 would utilize America’s abundant fossil fuel reserves located under federal lands and waters and require the Biden Administration to replenish and maintain the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It would require any future non-emergency SPR releases to be accompanied by a plan from the Secretary of Energy to increase the percentage of federal lands and waters leased for oil and gas production.
