Bice Votes to Cut Government Spending

May 31, 2023

Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement after voting for the Fiscal Responsibility Act:

"Over the last 2 years under one party rule, Democrats spent more than $10T, and increased our debt to over $31T, causing economic stagnation, inflation, and increased interest rates. While I hoped for and even supported more spending cuts, the Fiscal Responsibility Act is a step towards reigning in federal bureaucracy and runaway spending in Washington. At the end of the day, this is a divided government and Republicans successfully negotiated the first ever decrease in congressionally directed spending in history. It was this, a clean debt ceiling increase with no spending cuts, or a default. I choose to support an imperfect bill which the CBO predicts will reduce the deficit by $2.1T and will continue to focus on additional cuts moving forward."
