Bice Statement on the Passage of H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act

March 18, 2021

Washington – Congresswoman Stephanie Bice released the following statement after voting against  H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act.

“Today I chose to vote against H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act. At a time when the number of illegal crossings at our southern border is dramatically increasing each day, the last thing Congress should do is pass legislation granting amnesty to nearly 2 million individuals. This proposal only incentivizes illegal immigration and will prompt even more parents to send their children across our borders, exacerbating the current problem.

“America has the right and responsibility to protect its borders and to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. It’s not fair to individuals who are working through the immigration process legally to grant citizenship to those who have entered the country illegally. Before we grant widespread amnesty, we should focus on fixing our current immigration system, to allow those who want to enter our country legally a more direct path to citizenship. Passing the American Dream and Promise Act is a step in the wrong direction.”
