Bice Reacts to Biden’s First Presidential Address to Congress

Oklahoma City – Congresswoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05) released the following statement in response to President Biden’s first address to a joint session of Congress. Due to meetings in Oklahoma’s fifth district, Congresswoman Bice was not able to join in person for the joint session.

“During his campaign President Biden discussed bringing unity to our country and working across the aisle to create bipartisan policies for all Americans, but in his first 100 days and in his first Presidential address to Congress, he continues to promote a very liberal agenda.

Our nation is on the verge of recovery and Congress must do everything we can to ensure that continues, but Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda comes with hefty price tag in the form of increased taxes on our nation’s job creators that are just now beginning to emerge from the pandemic. America can’t afford to jeopardize its recovery now.

The president’s proposals focus on growing the size of government, with more government overreach into the lives of Americans. Since taking office, Biden has signed more than $60,000,000,000 in new taxes, the largest tax increase the American people have experienced in decades. Raising taxes now could destroy jobs, undermine the economic growth and burden the middle class.

In his speech, Biden continued to talk about his climate change plan, never addressing the detrimental consequences of these Democratic policies to Oklahoman and American jobs. With more Green New Deal-type policies, President Biden is penalizing the American energy industry and destroying tens of thousands of jobs. Republicans have proposed common sense solutions to support the environment in the energy sector and technology has vastly improved its safety.

Last night, I hoped that President Biden would follow through on his promises to work with Republicans, lay down his partisan ideals and truly work with all members of Congress to continue to build back America. I stand ready to work with him when he does.”
